Joliet, Ill. - Amy Mueller filed a lawsuit after she willingly climbed on top of the bar at Samy's Bar and Grill to dance and fell off, breaking her ankle.
Her lawyer is claiming Samy's should have produced some form of climbing aid for inebriated patrons. "We have a serious problem in America," said Will Sooyoo, Mueller's attorney, "when intoxicated young women endanger their health while merely trying to have a good time. Just like my client, this will not stand."
The owner of Samy's Bar and Grill was unavailable for comment Monday, but was reportedly seen installing small flights of stairs which were said to be connected to all bars and tables.
When reached later by phone, owner Samuel Adams replied, "We are going to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our patrons from the time they walk in our door 'till the time they stumble out to their cars. Safety is key for us."
"Our bartenders are now being required to pass EMT training courses before stepping behind this bar," the owner said while climbing up the stairs leading to the top of table 23.
When asked whether he thought this was a bit extreme, he responded, "Obviously when responsible young ladies like Ms. Mueller are breaking bones here, I don't think any measure is too extreme."
