SynchronicitY

I really liked Abby Cunningham’s idea about getting away from the “serious” side of things for a while. My blog concerning synchronicity is either going to really turn you onto something or possibly confuse the hell out of you (it still confuses me to an extent, which is why I enjoy reading about it) - but I think this information is worth sharing, and any thoughts or comments on synronotic experiences you have had are very welcome.

According to dictionary.com, syncronicirty is defined as a Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related. “Synchronicities are people, places or events that your soul attracts into your life to help you evolve to higher consciousness or to place emphasis on something going on in your life.”

Every day is an opportunity to encounter and make sense of meaningful patterns, coincidences, and ideas (aka: synchronicities) that all relate to each other. It’s just a matter of being patient and looking for them (which some might deem a waste of time, but I think it brings about a sense of purpose and awareness)

According to this synchronistic Web site, “Synchronicity is a word coined by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung to describe the temporally coincident occurrences of acausal events. Souls create synchronicities, played out in the physical. It is why you are here. It is how our reality works.” I think that the term really has to do with the intersection of mystical happenings such as our collective unconscious, coincidence and déjà vu.

This Web site suggests that there is a small link, between human thought and patterns that occur in random data sets. However, since the theory of synchronicity is not testable according to the classical scientific method, it is not widely regarded as scientific.
Scientifically it may have to do with probability and correlation.

If you are interested in this sort of higher level thinking, I would suggest checking out either the movie Waking Life or What the Bleep Do We Know?. Both films talk about the relationship between knowledge, dreaming, quantum physics all these other fantastic happenings that we, as intelligent creatures are realizing in such an advanced society. With the speed of technology doubling every six months (I know I heard this statistic somewhere recently) there is no telling how far into the unknown we will get in our lifetimes. Maybe some of these links can be a springboard to talking about these outside-of-the-box concepts.
