I know that's a lame title for this blog entry but blame Andy the bachelor for that one. This show is illustrating in the first five minutes how emotionally shallow people are. I'm not going to single out the women even though they start crying whenever Andy gives another woman a hug. "I haven't had any one on one time and I'm pretty damn bummed," said Bevin, a contestant who's in love with Andy after one week. My thought is that she should have been a better bull rider. The first date included riding a mechanical bull. Another contestant, Stephanie, was the only girl to manage to stay on the bull for more than 45 seconds. Andy pointed out how pleased he was by saying, "I really like a girl who can down and dirty..." Maybe he plans to be rough like a bull when they're.......nevermind.
I don't know how much you can relate this show to youth culture (only a couple of the contestants are under 24). The show just makes me wonder how many people our age would resort to meeting our "soulmate" on a reality TV show.

Did you see the first episode with Lindsay, who was from Lawrence? Ugh!!!
Anyway, I think our generation is most influenced by these "reality shows" because they really started to gain popularity as we were growing up, not including earlier shows like MTV's "The Real World" and "Road Rules," but shows like "Fear Factor," "The Bachelor" and yes, "Flavor of Love."
I hate to say it, but sometimes I think that some Gen. Nexters believe that these shows are really real and are apart of everyday life. So, it doesn't surprise me that people our age think that they can find their future spouse on "The Bachelor."

I'm actually on the facebook group right now but I saw this and wanted to say something about your comment. I don't think that half of those girls who ctually go on the show are going on to find their "soulmate". If they do then that's pretty sad because you are basically being put in forced situations where each girl is just trying to get a rose to move on to the next round. How can someone act themselves with trying to compete with 25 other girls for one guy? Miss Kansas 2004 came and talked to my sorority on Monday night and she was actually on the Bachelor in Paris, I don't know if you remember but it was the one with Travis the doctor. Anyway, she straight up told us that her and her friend Susanne (who ended up 3rd runner up with Milona and Sarah that episode) went on the show to become famous. She said they wanted to move to LA and become famous but they had nothing to persue in LA to get famous so they applied for the show, hoping to either meet a guy or get famous. I think the show is entertainig, but it is FAR from actual reality.

Ali I agree with you that most of them are probably going on there to become famous. It's easy to get confused about their intentions when you're watching the show though. Also, I'm pretty sure my sister said that Stephanie from Kansas went to Blue Valley North. Hopefully she does well.

Hmmmm really? How old is your sister, is she older? Stephanie may have gone to North and I just didn't realize because she is so much older. I'll ask my older brother and see if he knows... What a small world!

Ali, I just talked to my sister and she said that she was friends with Stephanie in middle school and high school. She graduated in '01.

My older brother said she graduated with him and is friends with her too, crazy. Oh and that girl from Lawrence made me embarassed to say that I go to school in that city. Two words...WHITE TRASH.
