Why is it that hip-hop is seen as the cause of our generation's problems? I know it is popular but I personally cannot say that it influences me. Can anybody honestly say that hip-hop influences them that much?

I know what you mean. Personally I enjoy listening to rap music but I do not see it influencing me whatsoever. I like to sag my shorts I won't lie but I have been doing that since before I started listening to rap. So I mean I love the music, but your right it does not influence me. However, that might not be the same for everyone.

Hip Hop is seen as a problem for our generation because our parents dont like it. Just like our grandparents didn't like rock n roll in the 50s 60s and 70s. They dont like it becuase its differnet and not what they are used to. But how could they not link some of the events that occur with our youth with the violence that correlates with rap music. I'm not saying that hip hop is alone in this blame game, becuase some music like heavy metal or "rage rock" which we heard about in the documentary are also seen as fueling youth's problems. But they dont see that we dont listen to these kinds of music because it influences us in our actions, we listen to it just to listen to it.

I agree with Ryan. I enjoy rap music too (I'm about as street as it gets), but I don't let it influence me. I don't think it very actively influences a lot of people in our generation. I think the reason that it is blamed for our generation's problems is that there are people who do live their lives by what they hear in rap music. A lot of times, they're not exactly hearing the same stuff Danny Tanner says on Full House (God bless that show). But as long as some people in our generation live their lives by what they hear in rap, people will use that as the scapegoat for our generation.
