Youth and Alcohol Consumption

Someone showed me this website a few weeks and ago and I though it would go along with this class since it talks about college students and their alcohol consumption. With Spring Break coming up I thought some people would find it interesting. This is the article about college students and their drinking habits, but there is also some interesting information pertaining to drinks and their calories. So look through the website, I think you will be suprised!! Let me know what you all think!

K and I can not figure out for the life of me how to insert the link the right way. I will work on that for the future but here it is:

Adam Schoof:

That was an interesting website, especially the trivia section. Apparently Kansas is famous for a woman named Carrie Nation who believed that God spoke to her through dreams. In one of these dreams, God apparently told her to destroy the liquor supplies of a saloon with rocks. Her husband jokingly told her that she could have been more productive with a hatchet, so she took his advice. She was arrested some thirty instances for vandalism with a hatchet and paid for her fees with money from souvenir hatchets.

I got all of this from the Wikipedia article, so be wary.

We seem to get a lot of crazies in Kansas. Must be something in the water.

Ali Mills:

This was pretty interesting, especially because I heard (just heard so it may not be true), but I heard that an alcoholic is one who drinks at least 3 times per week...does that make those of us who do alcoholics? Just curious, let me know what you guys think.

Tom Powers:

Alcoholism only exists after college

Alex Reinhard:

I like this web site a lot because it targets youth, but alcohol only legally pertains to less than half of our youth demographic definition (14-24). It acknowledges that not only those who legally drink want to know about things other than how drinking will negatively effect us. Usually these sites are anti-alcohol and so on, yet this one seems to understand that negative knowledge isn't the only way to inform kids, especially college students.

Jackie Wittlinger:

Lauren you would post something about alchohal, and if we are in fact alchohalics then i blame it on Peggy Field and the use of her basement!

Andrew Wiebe:

I'll drink to that.

Adam Samson:

most of us are alcoholics whether we want to realize it or not. it just seems more accepted because we're college students and some are still teenagers, but when we get out of college, it won't be seen as acceptable. I enjoyed the statistic about freshmen college students in 2003 reported the lowest rates of drinking in 38 years. The proportion who occasionally or frequently drinks beer has dropped to an historic low of 44.8%, down from 73.7% in 1982. Shows how much the youth drank compared to us in the 80s.
