I wrote this one awhile back but I thought some of you might care to read it and speak your mind. This topic struck a particular cord with me after the intense class discussions so I found an article that would appropriately define one of the numerous key aspects in the debate over youth culture and why the kids have grown so terrible in our teenage ways. The article by Steve Rabey titled “Gen M, defined by Media” basically describes the amount of media teenagers consume in their average daily lives compared to past generations. And the experts agree and have proven that teenagers are consuming this media like never before seen. The significance of this article, however, is that not all critics agree that this is necessarily a negative thing. These theorists would heavily disagree with many theories in class such as the reason why men are not so quick to graduate as the women are. And, when I say men I mean the teenage boys who have created these personal fables by watching TV, listening to hip-hop entrepreneurs, and never missing the next James Bond flick. That’s not reality. The thing is that if it’s a positive thing for us to be engulfed by the media that surrounds us, why are men failing to graduate. I don’t know. I’m not taking sides because personally it doesn’t matter to me. Maybe, that’s the theory that men just don’t care, or, maybe we do care but we’re just careless. Who knows? In the article by Steven Rabey he quotes Steven Johnson, the author of Everything Bad is Good For You: How Today's Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter, who says TV shows like the Sopranos actually stimulate brain activity by giving our melons a “cognitive workout”, but last time I checked the men in the Soprano family don’t even attend college let alone graduate but the daughter of the family is attending college to become a lawyer. How about that? Women may be graduating from college in greater numbers than men but I still believe men are bound to be more successful. It is a man’s world after all.

I think this is a great article! People our age really do have media driven lives. The media helps us form opinions, tells us what to wear, etc. I think that the way teens act today is greatly influenced by the media, but at the same time adults are being influenced as well. I do think if we had less media exposure on things like the Anna Nicole crisis then we may be less corrupt. It will be interesting to see how our children are influenced.

WHOA!! A man's world? You would think this has gotten more female's in this class a little more fired up. But it hasn't. Does this mean we all aree? Maybe not but I personally do. I do not think men are more intelligent and are going to be more financially sucessful. We all know women are capable of bringing home the bacon! But I do find myself going to the men in my life to take care of my dirty work. By this I mean like carrying the heavy stuff, schmoozing the car sales man, and pumping the gas when it is cold. I believe women can still be intelligent and strong but let the men handle things they still might be better at than I.

Lets be honest with ourseleves. Each sex has its strong suits. We would be kidding ourselves to assume that men and women can do everything equally. Traditionally, men are better in the buisness world. This is because they are also more willing to be cut throat. But, what women know that men dont is that creating last relationships within a work environment will allow you to move up and make sure no one stabs you in the back. So, face it men and women are different not equal...and this isnt such a bad thing
