David Kupelian- "Why today's youth has gone insane"

According to WorldNetDaily.com,“David Kupelian is vice president and managing editor of WorldNetDaily.com and Whistleblower magazine, and author of the best-selling book, "The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised as Freedom." He is a dynamic speaker and has been featured on Fox News, MSNBC, CBN and many other media outlets.” In my opinion, David Kupelian is an extremist with a skewed perspective.
In his article entitled “Why today's youth culture has gone insane,” Kupelian hypothesizes that as large media outlets play greater roles in the everyday lives of youth, a destructive trend has emerged in youth culture. He believes that because we are exposed to so much graphic content, we as cohort have become extremists through our incorporation of pain, sex and lack of morality. Explaining his beliefs as such, “True, mass conformity even to bizarre beliefs and practices can be explained somewhat by the sheer power of peer pressure, but there is more to it. It's more akin to mass-hypnosis, where large numbers of people simultaneously adopt the same bizarre mindset, beliefs and practices. Such instances of spiritual "possession" of a society, of a people made ripe for such a downward transformation by their sins and rebellion against God, are evident throughout history.”
While I believe that Kupelian has found some truth in his explanation of trends and an increasing group-mentality, I do not agree that “today, because of the near-ubiquitous corruption "out there," if parents fail to properly guide and protect their children, the kids get swallowed whole by the child-molesting monster we call culture.” Kupelian continues to conclude and explain that the answer to our growing problem is home schooling.
To support his claim, he makes an example of the gay community. He believes that it “used to be a miserable subculture lurking in public toilets and seedy clubs, and has today become the sophisticated culture of the "beautiful people" and Hollywood, so must your true American culture – if it's ever to come back – start off as a subculture.” I can understand how his demonstration could be laterally applied to youth culture, but I do not agree with his extremist perspective. Kupelian glorifies and relies heavily on past generations for guidance, yet fails to realize that today’s youth culture has emerged as a result of those same generations.

I'm sure that there is stuff mentioned in the article somewhere in the deep, dark corners of the Internet but the the fact remains that Mr. Kupelian had to pass over a lot to get there. Unless his default search is "bisexual amputation branding whilst on meathooks", I can't see how he overlooked the plethora of less graphic examples of youth culture on the Internet.

The one word I agree with completely in this entire article is "extremist." I think Kupelian is just like any other extremist and says exactly what is going to get him media attention. He reminds me of Fred Phelps who is an extreme anti-gay activist and anti-war activist. He does things on an extremist level because he knows the media will be drawn to it. I think Kupelian is just another example of this, and the more we feed into and listen to his accusations, the more he will continue with his extremist’s ideas. I think in these extremists’ situations the best idea is to ignore them completely, and well, maybe call them crazy behind their backs.

I agree with Adam on the idea that these passages aren't just things that pop up onto your computer screen. In our class discussion when we talked about the article 90% of the class seemed pretty shocked about the examples of youth culture that Mr. Kupelian gave. I believe that when you're in a classroom filled with youth and they are shocked by what supposedly defines their culture then you haven't done your research. People like Kupelian are the reason that youth have such a bad reputation today.
