In class today, we talked about podcasting. I know that it can be a very confusing and rife with words. I think the best way to learn the definition of podcast is to watch one.
This link will take you to a podcast called Systm hosted by Kevin Rose and Dan Huard. The episode is a how-to on podcasting and features an interview with Leo Laporte (the man behind the #1-ish podcast "This Week in Tech").
Below the video, there are links to everything you need to make a podcast; from the hardware to the software. I would suggest downloading Audacity and playing around with it. It is a simple, free and straightforward recording tool.
If you are so inclined, you may want to check out other episodes of Systm or thebroken. Warning: thebroken contains references to marijuana, alcohol, sex, hacking and online piracy. I know that these are corrupting influences and as college students we need to avoid them. However, if you like that kind of stuff, watch thebroken and you might learn a thing or three.
Author's Note: I have stood on the outcropping in the San Francisco Bay where the hosts are standing at the beginning of the Systm episode. At the palace of Fine Arts, you take a left off of Mason Street and go as far as you can on Yacht Road. You have to get out and walk from there, and at the end you will find the Wave Organ. Can you tell I'm a little proud?
