For the last year, we have started the semester showing the online producers EPIC, the "future of journalism" piece created by Matt Thompson and Robin Sloan. EPIC 2014, the first version was dark and almost depressing. The sequel, EPIC 2015 ends with a sunnier outlook.

I prefer to think of EPIC as a motivation piece...something that will light a fire and unleash a flood of creativity in our budding journalists. Perhaps, I am too optomistic. But I don't believe my job as a journalist is in danger. In fact, the way I see it, the medi needs more people like me, and the online producers we are churning out of the Multimedia Newsroom. We got skills. Skills that provide a good foundation and the ability to adapt and evolve (oh! Evolution. Now that's a word we don't use lightly in Kansas.)
There is a media revolution at hand, and those young journalists who are willing to be flexible will be able to take media to the next level. EPIC 2015? I say, bring it on!
Although, we began with EPIC again this semester, Rick and I both agree that it is, perhaps a bit out-dated. For their first assignment, we've asked the online producers to give us some feedback on EPIC. I look forward to reading what they have to say about it and the future of journalism.

How about using the Pirate name generator? It says that Princess Buttercup's pirate name is Cap'n Misty Deadbones. Love it!
